Little Art Explorers – Craft time! – 2 – 4 yrs

Join us for a weekly art project! Painting, cutting, and pasting are just a few of the ways in which our young artists express their creativity and develop fine motor skills. Adult participation is required. Cost is included in Play Pass. Wednesdays at 10:30am. 

 

Infant Massage Workshop:

Cost: $40 + HST  Pre-registration is required.

This session includes a full body massage, group discussion, powerpoint presentations, review of baby states and cues, baby soothing techniques (gas, sleep) and more. It is suited for any caregiver that would like to learn or review baby care basics, massage and connect with other parents. We will review the Family Triad Model as the base of this course, including touch, communication and environment.  

Powerpoint offerings include Brain Development and the Need for Touch, States and Cues and Triad Model and Epigenetics. Breathwork for parents is a grounding component to this unique offering. This class is taught by certified infant massage instructor Sonja Martin. Participants should bring baby (no matter the state), a blanket and extra clothes. Oil and handouts provided.

 

Parent + Child Family Paint Nights

DATES: March 1st, March 8th, March 15th @ 6pm

Cost: $40.00 plus HST for 1 adult/child pair. extra siblings $10
Ages: 4 years +

It’s all about fun, creativity, and spending time together! No artistic talent required! Step by step instructions from our fantastic art teacher. Paint and learn together with your child. You will both bring home a masterpiece! Pre-Registration is required to book. Payment must be provided in advance to hold your spot. Event is non-refundable but can be transferable.

 

MOM + BABY GROUP

Join us at the Play Cafe for a group just for you! Sit back and relax with your babe and a beverage as we chat, get to know, and cheer each other on. Recommended for parents with babies newborn to pre-crawling.

The group is facilitated by Sarah Susnar who owns/operates Play Cafè and is a birth and postpartum doula and early childhood educator. So you will get some new friends plus support from a doula all in one group <3

We will have  guest speakers and discuss various topics each week!

Musical Baby Signs: 

Cost: $65 + HST for 6 weeks

Tuesday’s at 10am – Next Session: Starts March 19th – Register now!

Together we will explore American Sign Language vocabulary using songs, play, and family and baby connection. This class is a mixture of Sign Language as well as musical Mother Goose program.

Yoga Play (New) 

Loved yoga with your baby? What do you do now that your baby is moving into toddlerhood? This class is the next step. This class includes some gentle stretches for parents and more activity for your explorer. Class includes massage, activity stations, songs, stretches, stories and fun props. Class is suitable for children ages 1 to 4. No previous yoga class required. 

Dates: February 14th to March 7th 9:30 to 10:15  (4 weeks)

Cost : $58 plus HST, additional siblings $10

 

Music and Motion with Martha: 

Thursday’s starting January 17th – 6 Weeks

Toddler/Preschooler Age @ 10:30am

(Includes playtime before and/or after)

Toddler Class:   Now that your child is a toddler, our focus in this class we will be exploring ways to develop fine motor dexterity; positive social interactions including turn taking; creativity and self expression; and  vocabulary through singing.   We will play with rhythm sticks, shakers, glockenspiel, and more.  I will, of course also bring in my banjo, flute, Irish drum and ukulele.

Parent +  Baby Yoga Connection: Tuesday’s 2pm starting Jan. 15th (6 weeks – $72+HST)

This is a gentle, safe, yoga, song and stretch class for new parents. It will focus on parent baby connection through gentle stretches, breath work and massage. It will be a time to honour this important transition time while supporting the needs of new families. This is geared for babies newborn to age two.  Facilitated by Sonja Martin of Rooted Lavender. RYT 500. Pre-Registration is required.

Gentle Hatha Adult Yoga: Tuesday’s 7pm starting Jan. 15th (6 weeks $65+HST)

Pre-registration is required.
This is a gentle yoga class suitable for those brand new to yoga or those with added experience. Students will be guided in this time of renewal through a series of gentle postures, breath and mind work aiming to calm the mind and increase alertness. It will be enjoyable for everyone regardless of body type or fitness level. Students will be safely guided through the asanas (postures) and relaxation techniques as we stretch and strengthen our being. Teacher : Sonja Martin, RYT 500

 

Story Time Yoga (New)

This early evening class is for ages 4+. This is a great way to explore yoga as a family. Come and learn a stretching, massage, and breath work routine with a new interactive story each week. Parents and children will learn to safely perform beginner yoga stretches and mindful breath work to help set the stage for a calming bedtime routine.

Dates: February 19th to March 19th, 6:00pm-6:45pm

Cost : $58 for the session, additional children are only $10

 

 

 

 


 Monthly Supports:

Baby and Me Circle of Support: Friday’s 1pm-2pm  This new offering is for parents with babies needing weekly support with feeding/sleep or simply need out of the house! This meet up is facilitated by the Serenity Doula Care Doula’s as well as from Peer Support. Older children are welcome to play at a discounted rate of $5.00 + HST.  Please no outside drinks. Our business has a cafe and we appreciate your support.

Bullet Journal 101:

Have you been hearing about the Bullet Journal craze, and wondering if it really is as amazing a system as it appears?
Did you receive a “BuJo” for Christmas but don’t know where to start?
Would you like to learn more about it before investing?
If any of these fit your situation, you are in the right place! Come to this workshop, where you will learn the secrets of why this system works, as well as how to tailor it to meet YOUR unique needs. You will learn the ‘code’ for tracking, see lots of examples of completed pages, and receive handouts to help you practice and plan your very own BuJo.
About the instructor:
Diane Wolf, a professor-turned-psychotherapist is a self-professed organizational junkie who spends more time looking for the perfect planner than most people spend choosing a spouse, and since using her BuJo she never has to worry about lost to-do lists, or trying to remember what colour the exterior paint on her house is. Don’t miss it!

“What do I do if my baby stops breathing or what if my child chokes?” These are the most common questions I get from parents and caregivers.

Becoming a parent is an amazing event full of miracles happening every day but it also makes us feel vulnerable and full of new responsibilities. It is all part of this wonderful journey!

There are many things we can do to prepare ourselves and learning how to keep our family safe in the event of an emergency is definitely one of them! 
Join me and learn a skill that will save lives!! With our CPR class you will learn:

• To understand CPR and how best to handle an emergency
• CPR for an adult, child and infant
• CPR with the help of others
• How to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) on an adult, child and infant
• When and how to help a choking adult, child and infant

My classes are interactive and full of fun! We are a breastfeeding and child friendly class and we can be as flexible as you need. Dress comfortably and be ready for a hands on experience!

*Upon successful completion of the course the student will receive a certification valid for 1 year.

 

Allergy Workshop – March 21 from 7-8:30pm

Do you know someone with a severe allergic reaction? Want to be confident in the event that someone experiences an allergy emergency?Our Allergy Workshop covers prevention and first aid treatment of severe allergic reactions using auto-injectors. Learn how to recognize an allergic reaction and how to prevent and manage the risk of anaphylaxis. Workshop will also include a discussion on allergens. A great workshop for anyone who cares or supervises children, including teachers, day care providers, parents, grandparents and babysitters. Or for those who know someone with severe allergies. A detailed coloured handout will be provided. This workshop is baby friendly! 

Workshop is 90 minutes in length and will include time practicing with EpiPen trainers. Please dress comfortably!

Standard First Aid, Emergency First Aid and CPR C

(3 evening) Standard First Aid Course

Provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR. Course is designed for those who require a more in-depth understanding of first aid including: legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, chest injuries, and medical emergencies. Includes CPR-C certification. Recognized by Ontario’s Workplace Safety & Insurance Board. Includes certification. Program dates: Monday, March 25, Wednesday, March 27 and Monday, April 1 from 5:30 – 10:30 pm each day (must attend all three dates)

Course fee: $140 plus HST (includes manual)

(2 evening) Emergency First Aid Course 

Ideal option for people who want a general knowledge of first aid principles and the emergency treatment of injuries. Skills include: victim assessment, CPR, choking and what to do for external bleeding, heart attack, stroke wounds and burns. Includes CPR-B certification. Recognized by Ontario’s Workplace Safety & Insurance Board. Includes certification. Program dates: Monday, March 25 and Wednesday, March 27 from 5:30 – 10:30 pm each day (must attend both evenings)

Course fee: $105 plus HST (includes manual)

(1 evening) CPR-C (Adult, Child & Infant) Course 

Covers all aspects of CPR skills and theory for adult, child and infants, including two-rescuer CPR skills and Obstructed Airway techniques. CPR-C includes the importance of early defibrillation and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator. Includes certification. Program date: Monday, March 25 from 5:30 – 10:30 pm each day 

Course fee: $68 plus HST (includes handout)

An excellent workshop for new parents, grandparents, older siblings and those who care for little ones or would like a thorough refresher. Workshop will also include discussion on prevention and tips to keep in mind when baby begins to be on the move and eat solids. A detailed handout will be provided. This workshop is baby friendly! 

Workshop is 90 minutes in length and will include floor time practicing with infant manikins. Please dress comfortably!

Class fee: $35.00 plus HST

Pre-registration is required and limited spaces are available. Minimum of 4 registrants required to run program.

Babysitter Training Course

Heffernan First Aid is a facilitator of the Canada Safety Council’s Babysitter Training Course. 

This 6 week, 12-hour course is designed for those who are at least 12 years old or turning 12 within the calendar year. 

Program dates: (6 dates) Thursday, April 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 6:15 – 8:15 pm each day

*** Note: Students must attend all sessions and establish a passing grade of 75 per cent on the final examination in order to receive their certificate.

Becoming a trained babysitter can help prevent injuries and promote the responsible management of common situations that may arise while children are under your care!

The course material covers such topics as:

– Becoming a successful babysitter

– Caring for children from three months to school-aged

– The behaviour and misbehaviour of children

– Handling Emergencies

– Caring for a sick or injured child

– Prevention and basic First Aid

Program fee: $75.00 plus HST (includes student manual)

Home Alone Program – June 1st from 1:30-5pm

Heffernan First Aid is a facilitator of the Canada Safety Council’s Home Alone Program which is designed to provide children 10 years xof age and older with the necessary skills and knowledge to be safe and responsible when home alone for short periods of time. It will help them understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied. 

The course material covers such topics as:

* Establishing a routine

* House Key is your responsibility

* Strangers

* Telephone

* Emergencies

* Basic First Aid

* Internet Safety

Program is 3.5 hours in length and focuses on small group discussions, problem solving, role-playing, and instructor-led demonstrations. Please dress comfortably!

Ouchie 101 Workshop – June 5th 7-9pm

Let’s be realistic! When it comes to little ones, an owie, boo boo or ouchie may seem unavoidable. Although many injuries are minor, having the confidence and skills to deal with them calmly and quickly are important. Join us to review a variety of first aid topics such as wounds, head injuries, facial injuries, bone and joint injuries and more. We will discuss the best methods to help when an unfortunate mishap occurs and will talk about the importance of having a first aid kit in the home. A detailed coloured handout will be provided. This workshop is baby friendly and is 2 hours in length. Bring your questions! 

Class fee: $40.00 plus HST

Try to show up 5 minutes early or slip in quietly if you are late.
No refunds if a class is taught and you are unable to attend.
Please set personal items (bags, coats, etc.) at the front or to the side of the class.
For Yoga class cancellation (poor weather) ONE make up class will be added to the end of the session.
Please inform the teacher of any concerns or if you are unable to attend, Please call 705 874 3517.
If the teacher in unable to attend every effort will be made to find a qualified supply teacher.
Class cancellations will be posted on the Facebook Page at LEAST 2 hours before the start.
Pre-registration with payment is required for all series (unless drop-in) by the deadline posted.
Classes have a cut off for registration – 1 week prior to the start date.
